Definition
A distance between probability distributions defined as the minimum cost of transporting mass from one to the other, drawn from optimal transport theory. Its practical appeal is that it stays finite and gives useful gradients even when two distributions have disjoint support — the situation where KL divergence blows up — which is why WGAN adopted it to stabilize adversarial training. Unlike KL, it is symmetric and a true metric.
