Definition
The tail of bird's-eye-view after splitting: a top-down planar view of the scene. Driving stacks favour it because fusing all cameras and LiDAR into one overhead grid puts lanes, other vehicles, and the ego-vehicle in a single coordinate frame, so detection, tracking, and planning can share a representation. Compared with reasoning in image space, it makes the geometry sensor-agnostic — the grid stays the same whatever produced the evidence.
