Definition

An open standard and set of implementations for real-time audio, video and data between browsers or apps, built around peer-to-peer connections with NAT traversal, mandatory encryption and adaptive bitrate. Opus is its standard voice codec. It appears in AI papers as the transport layer for low-latency spoken interaction and remote control, where end-to-end delay budgets are measured in tens of milliseconds.
