Visual Question Answering: given an image and a free-form question about it, return an answer. It became the default way to check whether a model grounds language in what it actually sees. The catch is language priors — a surprising share of questions can be guessed from wording alone — so later versions pair each question with two images that have different answers, forcing the model to look.
