Definition
John Tukey, the statistician who with James Cooley published the fast Fourier transform algorithm. He is equally known outside signal processing for founding exploratory data analysis and for the box plot, and he is credited with popularising the word "bit". In machine learning papers the surname almost always turns up as half of Cooley–Tukey rather than on its own.
