Definition
A name for an LLM-based simulated learner. Education research wants these because testing a tutoring strategy or a problem sequence on real students is slow, expensive, and ethically constrained, so a simulator that reproduces plausible misconceptions, plateaus, and error patterns lets you iterate first. The standing risk is validity: if the simulated population differs from real learners, every conclusion drawn from it inherits that gap, making calibration against real data the crux.
