Definition
A neural audio codec from Google that learns encoder, residual vector quantiser and decoder end to end, with adversarial discriminators supplying much of the perceptual objective. It handles both speech and music at bitrates where classical codecs degrade badly. Its longest-lasting influence is arguably indirect: the discrete RVQ tokens it produces became a standard input representation for generative audio models.
