Describes a vehicle that drives without human control. In ML writing the phrase self-driving cars is a standing example of a task where perception, prediction, and planning must run end to end under safety constraints, which is why it comes up in discussions of distribution shift, rare events, and the gap between benchmark and road. Used interchangeably with "autonomous driving".
