Definition

The property that a system resists attack, and the field that studies how to achieve it — conventionally framed as confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Papers split into offensive work that demonstrates a break and defensive work that proposes a mitigation; both count as security research. It differs from safety, which concerns accidental failure and assumes no adversary who adapts to your defenses.
