Definition

SDXL, or Stable Diffusion XL, is Stability AI's latent-diffusion image generator: a larger UNet than earlier Stable Diffusion releases, paired with two text encoders whose embeddings are combined. Because the weights are open, it became a common substrate for fine-tuning, LoRA adapters and controlled comparisons. It also introduced a two-stage setup in which a separate refiner model cleans up the base model's output.
