Definition
To say a model "represents" something is to claim its internal activations encode that information in a recoverable form — typically shown by training a probe to read it out. This is the central verb of interpretability work, and it is weaker than it sounds: it asserts the information is present and decodable, not that the model uses it in its computation, and certainly not that it understands anything.
