GLOSSARY
recognition
appears in 6 paper titles
Definition
The family of tasks that identify what an input is: image classification, object recognition, speech recognition. Output is typically drawn from a predefined set, which makes evaluation comparatively clean — there is a correct answer to compare against. It contrasts with generation, where quality is open-ended, and it is the problem class where deep learning first displaced hand-engineered pipelines.
