Definition
Almost always part of "prospect theory", the descriptive account of choice under risk in which people evaluate outcomes as gains and losses relative to a reference point, weight losses more heavily than equivalent gains, and distort small probabilities. It surfaces in AI work that probes whether language models reproduce these human biases, and in reward modelling that tries to capture real preferences rather than expected value. The everyday sense of "prospect" as outlook is rarely what is meant.
