Short for Paired Open-Ended Trailblazer: a system that coevolves environments together with the agents that solve them, so that as agents improve, the environments generated for them grow harder and more varied without end. Its key mechanism is transfer — a policy trained in one branch is periodically tried in others — which lets the population route around obstacles a single lineage would get stuck on. Nothing to do with the ordinary word poet.
