paradigm

Definition

The framing of a problem rather than a particular method — what gets learned in advance, what is decided at inference time, and what the human supplies. Pre-train then fine-tune was one such shift; prompting a general model instead of training a task-specific one was another. Because announcing a new paradigm is a large claim, the thing to check is what it actually displaces and whether anything beyond framing changed.
