outperform

Definition

To score better than a comparison method. It is the standard verb of an abstract's claim sentence, and it means nothing without the accompanying detail: on which benchmark, under which metric, against which baselines, at what budget. Note that outperforming asserts a ranking of numbers, not that the gap is statistically significant or practically meaningful — that has to be argued separately.
