Adjusted toward some objective rather than left at a hand-chosen default. In titles it is a claim about process, not about optimality: something was tuned by an optimisation procedure — gradient descent, search, distillation — and the implied contrast is with hand-engineered or off-the-shelf settings. Read it as 'optimisation was applied here', never as 'a global optimum was reached'.
