operations

Definition
Individual computational steps — an add, a multiply, a matrix product — or the fused units built from them. Counting them, usually as FLOPs, is the standard hardware-independent way to compare how expensive models are. Be aware of the unrelated business sense: in a company context operations means running things day to day, so the same word means arithmetic in one document and logistics in the next.
