Short for next generation, asserting that something supersedes what came before. It is common in titles and product names but carries no information about what changed, so it cannot be used to judge a contribution. It sits with "state-of-the-art", "novel", and "revolutionary" as declarative framing — the kind of phrase whose backing has to be found in the results section, if it is there at all.
