Definition

Multiple agents operating in the same environment or on the same task, either cooperating with divided roles — planner, executor, critic — or competing so that each pressures the others to improve. The motivation in the cooperative case is separation of concerns, especially putting verification in different hands than generation. Adding agents adds computation and cost, though not necessarily in proportion, so a single-agent baseline is the comparison that matters.
