Definition

A family of lightweight convolutional networks from Google, designed for phones and embedded devices. Their core trick is the depthwise separable convolution, which splits a standard convolution into a per-channel spatial filter plus a 1x1 channel mix, cutting multiply-accumulates and parameters substantially. MobileNets are judged on accuracy per unit of latency or FLOPs rather than accuracy alone, and they largely established that framing for on-device vision.
