GLOSSARY
mine

Definition
As a verb, to dig useful examples out of a large pool instead of sampling uniformly. The canonical case is hard negative mining: deliberately selecting negatives the model currently confuses with the positive, so the loss spends its budget where the decision boundary is weak. Standard in contrastive learning, retrieval and detection. The noun sense — a mine in the ground — is only the metaphor.
