To copy faithfully, flaws included. The word carries a critical edge in this literature — as in measuring how models mimic human falsehoods — because the thing being reproduced is an error present in the training data. Note the opposite valence in imitation learning, where copying a demonstrator is precisely the goal rather than the complaint.
