GLOSSARY

makes

appears in 4 paper titles

Definition

A verb that appears in claim-shaped titles of the form "X makes Y Z", asserting that one ingredient causes a change in behaviour. Because the claim is causal, the body of such a paper is usually a set of controlled ablations isolating that ingredient. Reading the title as a hypothesis to be checked, rather than as an established finding, is the safer default.
