Definition

Describes tasks whose completion requires many dependent steps over a long stretch of time — multi-day workflows, extended tool use, robotic manipulation sequences. The difficulty is structural: reward arrives only at the end, so credit assignment is hard, and small early errors compound into unrecoverable states. Evaluation is harder too, since end-state success rates capture partial progress poorly.
