Definition

The process by which a system acquires structure from data rather than from hand-written rules. In practice it means updating parameters to reduce a loss, and the qualifier in front — supervised, self-supervised, reinforcement, in-context — tells you where the training signal comes from. Learning names the regime; training refers to the concrete run that carries it out.
