GLOSSARY

interpretable

Definition

A model or method is interpretable when a person can follow why it produced a given output — which inputs mattered, which internal parts carried the decision. It is valued wherever accountability is required, as in clinical or credit decisions. Many authors draw a line between interpretable, meaning transparent by construction, and explainable, meaning an explanation fitted to an opaque model after the fact.
