implicit

Definition

Encoded inside a function rather than written out as data. In implicit neural representations a shape or scene is stored as a network mapping coordinates to values, instead of an explicit mesh or voxel grid — continuous, compact, and queryable at any resolution. The same word appears in preference learning, where an implicit reward is never materialised as a separate model but is defined indirectly by the training objective.
