A deliberately modest claim verb: X improved Y under the conditions tested, without asserting a mechanism. Titles of the form "X helps mainly on Z" are more informative than they look — the qualifier says the gain was concentrated rather than broad, which is often the actual finding. When you see "helps," check whether the paper isolates why, or only reports that the number moved.
