grade

Definition

School year or level, encountered here almost exclusively in grade school — the qualifier on math word problem datasets such as GSM8K. The label describes the curriculum level of the content, not the difficulty for a model: these problems require chaining several steps of reasoning and arithmetic, and they remained a hard benchmark for language models long after much more advanced-sounding tasks were solved.
