A truncated model name: the prefix left over when a tokeniser splits GPT-4 or GPT-4o at the hyphen. It is an artefact of text processing rather than a term of art. GPT itself stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer, OpenAI's line of decoder-only language models; the suffix after the hyphen carries the generation and variant, which is exactly the part that got cut.
