Definition
The surname behind the Fourier transform, which represents a signal as a sum of frequencies. In deep learning it appears in Fourier features, where mapping coordinates through sinusoids of many frequencies lets a network fit high-frequency detail it would otherwise smooth away, and in analyses that recast convolution or attention in the frequency domain. Being a name, it carries no meaning by itself — the following noun does the work.
