forecasting
appears in 1 paper titles
Definition
Predicting future values from past observations — almost always time series: demand, load, weather, prices. The standard setup is multi-horizon, predicting many steps ahead at once, which is what makes it hard: errors compound and the useful signal is often seasonal structure rather than the most recent values. Narrower than prediction in general, which covers any input-to-output mapping.
