flajolet

Definition

The surname of Philippe Flajolet, the French researcher behind probabilistic counting and much of analytic combinatorics. His line of work established the idea of estimating distinct counts from extreme values of hashed data, which runs through probabilistic counting, LogLog, and HyperLogLog. When the name appears in a title or citation it identifies an author, not a technique — the technique is whatever the paper is named after.
