GLOSSARY

fine-grained

Definition

Working at a small unit of analysis. In evaluation it means scoring per claim, per attribute, or per span instead of marking a whole response right or wrong, which tells you not just that an output failed but where. The opposite is coarse-grained. The trade-off is cost: finer judgments require more annotation or more model calls.
