Definition

A close study of something that already exists. A title of the form "An Examination of X" marks an analysis paper rather than a method paper: the contribution is measurement, replication, and delimiting where a received claim holds. Read it differently from a proposal — the value is in the experimental design and in which parts of the conventional wisdom survive contact with it.
