Definition
Improving the quality of something that already exists rather than creating it. In audio, speech enhancement specifically means removing noise and reverberation while preserving what was said — the constraint that separates it from generation, since a model that invents plausible clean speech has failed even if the output sounds better. Attached to a method name, it usually signals an addition to an existing pipeline rather than a new one.
