Definition

Signals open-endedness: a process with no predetermined stopping point or target, continually producing new tasks, environments, or artifacts. It contrasts with the standard setup where you fix a dataset and a metric and train until convergence. The consequence is evaluative — if there is no final objective, there is no final score to report, so such work is judged on the diversity and novelty of what it keeps producing.
