empirical

Definition
Grounded in measurement rather than derivation. Most claims in this field are empirical, which means their scope is exactly the set of conditions actually run — a result demonstrated at one scale, on one dataset, with one architecture is evidence about that setting and an extrapolation everywhere else. A paper billed as an empirical study puts its weight on measuring how methods behave rather than on the novelty of what it proposes.
