GLOSSARY
emergent
appears in 2 paper titles
Definition
Describes capabilities that appear absent in smaller models and then seem to switch on past some scale. The claim drove a lot of scaling discussion, but it has been contested: several analyses argue the sharpness is partly an artifact of discontinuous metrics such as exact-match accuracy, and that smoother metrics reveal steady improvement. Read emergence claims together with the metric that produced them.
