elicits

Definition

To draw out a capability the model is claimed to already have, rather than to install a new one. The word carries a specific position: the ability was latent in the pre-trained weights and the intervention merely surfaced it. It is also a caution about measurement — if performance depends this much on how you ask, a low score says as much about the prompt as about the model.
