Changing something that already exists rather than regenerating it from scratch. In image work it means altering a region or attribute while leaving the rest intact; in model editing it means surgically updating specific factual associations stored in the weights. For model editing the hard question is locality — whether the edit sticks, generalizes to paraphrases, and leaves unrelated knowledge undamaged.
