Definition
A label for degradation that gets structurally worse as some quantity grows, not merely a hard problem. The classic case is the curse of dimensionality: the data needed to cover a space grows exponentially with its dimension, so distance-based intuitions break down. A recent coinage, the curse of recursion, describes what happens when models are repeatedly trained on their predecessors' output and the tails of the distribution disappear.
