Definition

Feeding a generative model extra information so its output follows that information — text and speaker embeddings in TTS, a prompt or reference image in image generation. The contrast is with unconditional generation, which samples from the data distribution with nothing steering it. Conditioning refers to inputs that shape what is produced at generation time, not to the supervision used during training.
