computing

Definition

Either the act of calculating something — computing the gradient, computing a bound — or the field and infrastructure of computation, as in high-performance computing or confidential computing. The modifier makes the two senses easy to tell apart. Distinguish it from the noun compute, which in this field means the resource itself: the FLOPs or GPU-hours a training run consumes.
