clouds

Definition
Nearly always part of "point clouds": unordered sets of 3-D points, typically produced by LiDAR or depth sensors. Because there is no grid, no fixed ordering, and no fixed cardinality, standard convolution does not apply, which is what drove permutation-invariant set architectures and sparse voxel methods. Nothing to do with meteorology or with cloud computing, despite the word appearing in both neighbouring contexts.
