Definition
The pool of provisional outputs produced before a single answer is committed to. The standard inference-time recipe is generate many, then select — by a verifier, a reward model, or majority vote. What decides whether this works is coverage: whether a correct answer appears anywhere in the pool. If it does not, no selection rule can recover it, which is why sample count and selection quality are analyzed separately.
