Definition
Provable upper or lower limits — on error, sample complexity, regret, or computation. A bound tells you what cannot happen, which is a different kind of claim from an empirical number, and because bounds are usually worst-case they are often loose by orders of magnitude compared to measured behaviour. Their value lies less in the constant than in the dependence they expose: which quantities the difficulty actually scales with.
