Definition

Pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps, in two distinct technical senses. In learning, it means feeding a model's own successful outputs back in as training data for the next round, raising capability without new human supervision — the pattern behind self-training and rationale bootstrapping. In statistics it means resampling with replacement from your sample to estimate an estimator's variability. Context disambiguates easily, but the two share no machinery.
