Definition
The view of probability as a degree of belief updated by evidence, formalised by Bayes' theorem: prior times likelihood, normalised, gives the posterior. It matters wherever uncertainty must be represented explicitly rather than collapsed into a point estimate — hyper-parameter search, calibration, small-data regimes. The word is a surname, Thomas Bayes, and usually appears as the adjective Bayesian.
